To All Those Who Read Cristina Corduneanu's Story, Great News

To those of you who remember the story of Cristina Corduneanu that I wrote about on here - read Cristina's Story Here - I have some great, great news about her progress.

On June 19th the bone marrow was removed from Cristina's body and a few stem cells transplanted from her mother into Cristina. All anyone could do then was wait, and hope, and pray.

Well today great news has come from Belgium, where Cristina was taken for these treatments as Romania does not have the facilities to carry out such an operation, the transplant seems to be a success and Cristina is doing very well. I have tears of joy pouring from eyes since I heard the news.

I have seen some pictures of her looking so happy and smiling and laughing. I can't post them here as I have been asked not to.

To every one of you guys reading this who posted Cristina's Website link around the internet, to those who Re-Tweeted all my messages on Twitter and especially to those who gave their cash to make this possible for Cristina, I can't thank you enough. Every one of you is directly involved in hopefully saving Cristina's life if all goes according to plan.

As I have said before, we can ill afford to lose someone like cristina who gives of their time so willingly and who has such a deep love for the underpriviliged children in the Transylvania area of Romania.

I'm sure in the not too distant future she will get to see her beloved little babies and will be back to where she belongs, doing what she is best at, helping others !!

Cristina Corduneanu Update

As many of you probably read about Cristina's fight for life I decided to add an update to the situation to let you all know what is happening.

I can tell you she needed 50,000 Euros before the hospital in Brugge, Belgium would even begin treating her. Back then the donations had only reached 32,000 Euros and 18,000 Euros needed to be raised in one week !!!

Well, it didn't make the total. It finished on 47,493.

But forget that because the Belgian hospital said they will proceed with the stem cell treatment as long as 40,000 Euros was lodged as a down payment.

This has been done and Cristina's treatment will be going ahead on 19th June.

Here is an email from Cristina herself:

From Cristina:
Thank you for all your support!

The director has approved my admission in the hospital with a payment in advance of 40.000 euros. I have to pay in advance 40.000 euros and the rest of the amount will be calculated based on the expenses during the hospitalization: the length of stay, the medication, the rehabilitation period.

The transplantation procedure will start on the 19th of June and it consists of:

19.06: total body iradiation;

22.06 - 27/28.06: intense chemotherapy session; Intense chemotherapy and radiation therapy are used to kill my stem cells (cells that make blood and immune cells) and also the cancer cells.

29.06 - 01.07: my mother's stem cells will be transfused into my blood.

After all these I will stay in the hospital for minimum three weeks, in an izolated room, if luckily everything goes well;

Then for the following three months I will have to stay in Brugge for close supervision of the doctors;

The reason why the tranplant procedure starts only in 10 days time is because the doctor didn't know for sure if he would have the administration's approval by the 8th of June. And now they started the preparation for the transplant, to order the medication. The payment will be done before the 19th of June.

For cristina, this has been an impossibly long road and it has only just begun for her really. Now she faces months and months of painful treatment that may or may not work.

All we can do is wait and say prayers for her.

Cristina Corduneanu Needs Help Right Now

Cristina Corduneanu is one of those people you will only ever come across once in a lifetime. She is a young girl who has so far dedicated her life to helping the orphans and poorer people in my region of Romania. She works for the FAST (Fundatia Pentru Asistenta Sociala si Tineret) Charity in Romania.

Her work has involved raising cash and working tirelessly herself in order to make the lives of literally thousands of people much better. She has given many 100s of children a meaning to their lives and hope for their future in my village of Zizin as well as Sacele and Tarlungeni in the Brasov area of Transylvania in Romania.

Cristina Corduneanu has been stricken with Leukemia last year, and recently the disease has become so aggressive, her life is now in danger.

Dear Friends

Thankyou to all those who have given generously so far.

Things are moving very quickly, and Cristina's situation is becoming increasing desperate.

Since the last email you received Cristina has traveled to Belgium for medical tests. Her doctor advised that, due to the advanced nature of her Leukemia, there would be no point conducting any further chemotherapy. He advised that the stem cell transplant needed to take place by the 8th of June. Left longer, the disease will become more aggressive and Cristina's chances of survival diminish.

The cost of treatment has been revised down from 80,000 euro to 50,000 euro, however the clinic cannot commence the treatment until they have either an official commitment from the Romanian health department, or the 50,000 euro up front. Her family has made numerous approaches to the Romanian health department but they are refusing to help. Cristina has raised nearly 32,000 euro so far, this leaves her with the daunting task of raising 18,000 euro in one week.

We again ask all those who can to give generously. If everyone on this mailing list took it upon themselves to raise just 25 euro each, Cristina could have her treatment.

As you can see, the amount needed for Cristina Corduneanu to receive her treatment was 18,000 Euros which had to be raised in 7 days. They now need 7,924 Euros in 4 days.

The sad thing is, if EVERYONE on my Twitter account gave just $2 or £1.50, that would take them to the target they need. So if you can find it in yourself to help with ANY amount, no matter how small or insignificant you might feel it is then please, please do. ANY AMOUNT WILL GO TOWARDS GIVING CRISTINA CORDUNEANU HOPE.

The Human Race has enough bad people at large, we need to grasp people like Cristina Corduneanu and keep a hold of them. She does so much good work and asks for very little in return. Now in her hour of need the world MUST give her something back.

Maybe the Romanian government might step in with the cash, maybe the Belgian government might help but we can't rely on this, we MUST make sure this cash is available to her in case no one helps.
